FINALS BEGIN WITH REMEMBERENCE
OF 9/11
September 14, 2001 |
 |
After three days of rememberence for the horrific
events of September 11, the Game 1 of the MABL Finals
got underway. The Yankees defeated the Rockies 14-7.
Prior to the game, players and fans held a moment
of silence as respect for our nation. And as the game
begun, seven Yankee runs in the second inning was
the difference in this game. The Yankees pounded 14
hits led by Andrew Burton who went a perfect 4 for
4 with 4 RBIs and a double. 9 of 10 Yankees starters
crossed the plate. Mike Moloney (2-4) and Greg Crossman
(2-4) both had deep triples. Dave Galehouse also had
a multi-hit game while Mike Ganley had a 3 RBI day.
For the Rockies, Dave Mitrou, Gary Moran and John
Sutich all had multi-hit games. On the pitching front,
Yankee Jon Mugar was not a sharp as usual (7 IP, 10
H, 7 ER, 6 BB), but picked up his 3rd win of the playoffs.
Mugar allowed no runs in the last 3 innings after
giving up 5 runs in the 4th. Kyle Philson took the
loss for the Rockies. |

ATLANTIC BLANKS BAY STATE
IN ALL-STAR GAME
July 29, 2001 |
Atlantic All-Stars 4, Baystate All-Stars
0. Two-time MABL MVP Mark Doucette of the Braves was selected
player of the game, driving in 3 of the 4 Atlantic All-Stars'
runs, and smacking a 2-run homer over the left field fence.
Jeff Seng of the Cubs singled and scored the first run of
the game for the Atlantic. Last year's MABL Cy Young, Bryan
Gauvin of the Yankees was the star on the mound, striking
out 5 of the 6 batters he faced to start the game. Keith Umlauf
of the Cubs also pitched a ninth inning without allowing a
hit. For the Baystate All-Stars, of their four hits, the big
one was a double off the bat of Gary Moran of the Rockies
that nearly cleared the right-center field fence, but fell
short. Jeff James of the Cardinals also pitched 2 perfect
innings.

May 20, 2001 |
Brian Fodera, manager of the MABL Mets, won
$16,000 tonight on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
He was the first player to make it to the "Hot Seat."
Ironically, the question after he walked away with his prize
was: "Place the following Major League Baseball teams
in geographical order from West to East: Rockies, Padres,
Cubs, Orioles."
