DODGERS REPEAT AS MABL
CHAMPIONS
October 1, 2004 |
For the second straight year and their fourth
time as a franchise, the T's Pub Dodgers were crowned MABL
Champions, as they defeated the Yankees in deciding Game
5, winning the series 3 games to 2. Led by the arm of Dan
Petro, the Dodgers won the game 4-1. Petro finished the
season 11-0 overall, including two wins over the Yankees
in the Finals.
Down 4-0 going into the bottom of the 7th inning, the Yankees
threatened a comeback. The Yankees scored a run. Then, with
2 outs, and 2 on, and Mike Moloney as the tying run up at
bat, Moloney hit a deep blast to right field that on a windy
day might have cleared the Chelsea HS fence to tie the game.
Instead, it was hauled in at the warning track for the final
out as the Dodgers clinched victory. Check out the MABL
Championship Series, Dodger
Celebration or Road to
the Finals photo albums.

YANKEES ADVANCE TO MABL
FINALS FOR 6th TIME IN 8 YEARS
September 19, 2004 |

Frank Kowalski scores first Yankee run. |
The Yankees won their 26th game of the
year to defeat the Bluefish in Game 3 of the Atlantic
Conference Finals and advance to the MABL Finals. Frank
Kowalski scored the first Yanks run, and all they would
need, as Bryan Gauvin did what he does so often, win
and not allow any runs, as the Yanks won 3-0.
It is only fitting that in the 12th MABL Finals, the
Yankees will face the Dodgers. After all, the Dodgers
won it all last year, and the Yankees won the preceding
three years. In fact, of the 11 previous Finals, the
Dodgers or the Yanks have been to 9 of them, but never
versus each other.
The final turn down the road to the Championship begins
Tuesday night in a best-of-five series. |

MABL PLAYERS CHOICE AWARD
WINNERS UNVEILED
September 19, 2004 |
 |
For the 4th year, managers voted
for the best all around player at each position. The
Complete List of 2004 Player's Choice award winners
will receive their award at the MABL Banquet (date
and time are TBD, but desired location is the .406
Club at Fenway Park, same as last year). In 2004:
- AJ Bucciarelli, Bryan Gauvin and Jeff Coveney
of the Yankees, as well as Garrett Fisher of the
Dodgers and Steve Corda of the Giants joined Dan
Jalbert of the Cardinals as the only players to
have received a Player's Choice three times.
- Kit Kadlec became the first player to win as a
representative of more than one team: Bluefish ('04)
and Mets ('03).
- Joe Albano (SS & 2B) and Steve Corda (2B &
SS) of the Giants, Kit Kadlec (P & OF) of the
Bluefish and Santi Mazzeo (1B & OF) of the Athletics
joined Frank Kowalski (2B & 1B for Yankees),
Greg Kosk (SS & OF for Royals) and Mark Bowles
(OF & SS for Indians) as the only players to
win at multiple positions.
- Players from 10 different teams won a Player's
Choice. All-Time, the Yankees have won the most
Player's Choice awards at 16, followed most closely
by 9 Dodgers. Players from 21 different teams have
won over the years.

DUBOIS AND THE DODGERS
ADVANCE TO MABL FINALS
September 16, 2004 |

Mark Dubois hits GWRBI in bottom of 8th. |
Going into the bottom of the 8th inning
of a 4-4 game, Kevin Beliveau led off the inning with
a single off Reds pitcher, Sean Magee. Paul Mahoney
pinch ran for Beliveau. Mahoney moved along to third
base after some action, and then another Dodger reached
and stole second. So with no outs and two on, Mark Dubois
steps up and hits a towering blast to right field. Apparently
a walk off homerun, the ball instead tips the top of
the fence, scoring Mahoney, as the Dodgers win the game
5-4 in walk-off fashion and sweep the series 2-0.
The Dodgers will make their second straight trip to
the MABL Finals and face either the Yankees or Bluefish
(Atlantic series tied 1-1). |

MABL AWARD WINNERS SEEING
RED
September 14, 2004 |

Sean Magee takes home MVP and Rookie of the Year. |
The MABL announced it's Most Value Player,
Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year
today. Rookie sensation Sean Magee of the Reds took
home the MVP and ROY, reminiscent of what Jeff McHugh
did in 2002 for the Yankees. And speaking of Yankees,
Bryan Gauvin brought home his 4th Cy Young award in
5 years. Jason Gesing of the Reds took home Manager
of the Year for inheriting a team that finished 8-17
a year ago and leading them to 17-9 and the #1 seed
in the Bay State this year. See the final 2004

MABL CONFERENCE FINALS
UNDERWAY; YANKS ROLL
September 13, 2004 |

Quinn Ryan allows just 1 run. |
Backed by the strong pitching of Quinn
Ryan, the Yankees won Game 1 of 3 of the Atlantic Conference
Championship 6-1. Ryan allowed just 1 ER over 7 innings
on 5 hits while striking out 8. Ryan's only blemish
was a solo homerun to Chris Harrington in the 4th.
Offensively, the Yanks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the
1st after a lead off walk by AJ Bucciarelli, a single
by Mike Moloney and an RBI single by Tim Troville. The
Yanks then got some breathing room in the 3rd scoring
3 runs highlighted by a Jeff McHugh 2-out, 2 RBI triple.
Chris O'Sullivan took the complete game loss for the
Bluefish. Kit Kadlec and Mark Doucette had multi-hit
games for the fish.
The Reds and Dodgers will face off in Bay State action. |

the largest Boston MABL tournament ever held. Almost

Due to a rain-shortened Saturday, the Marlins and
White Sox advanced to the finals on Sunday after each
receiving only 1 win. The Bluefish also had a win,
but did not make the finals due to a predetermined
tie-breaker. The Marlins defeated the White Sox 6-1
in the finals to become the inaugural Cooperstown
