WINTERBALL 2008
12/13/08:
This year's Winterball
game was the latest and coldest ever played. Held at East
Boston Stadium, the temperature was 28 degrees
with a 10 MPH wind off the ocean. The MABL was victorious
over the MSBL, 5-3, but the real winners were the kids that
will benefut from the many toys that were collected for

SAME OLD STORY:
METRO RED SOX BEAT BLUE JAYS AGAIN FOR MSBL MASTERS TITLE
9/30/08: For the second straight year,
and third time in four years, the Metro Red Sox won the
MSBL Masters title. Metro won two straight championship
games over the Brockton Blue Jays, 2-1. In the finale, Les
Weber homered into the pool to give the Jays the lead. But
in the 7th, the Sox, who had only managed only an infield
hit in the game, got singles from Al Visnick and Mark Moise
followed by two walks and a fielder's choice to plate the
go ahead run. In the bottom of the 7th, Mike Williams hit
a leadoff double. The pinch runner moved to 3rd on a sacrifice,
and Weber hit a fly ball to medium right that was caught
by Eric Kimble who then threw a strike to the plate to double
up the potential tying run and end the game.

100 INNINGS DOWN -- CURT SCHILLING
MAKES AN APPEARANCE
August 31, 2008 |
 |
This Labor Day weekend, the Boston
Men's Baseball League with players also from the Park,
Yawkey, Cranberry, MIBL, BABL and several other local
leagues successfully completed the 5th Annual 100
Innings of Baseball Spectacular to raise funds for
Curt's Pitch for ALS, the charity of legend Curt Schilling
of the Boston Red Sox. Final score: Knights:
91, Daze 78.
Curt and Shonda Schilling were on hand Saturday afternoon
to thank the participants for their support and to
offer some words. After watching Mike Pollak of the
MABL White Sox get hit by a pitch, Curt heckled: "Don't
worry. That should feel better by the 70th inning."
When Curt addressed the players in attendance he
also joked about the physical condition of some of
the athletes saying: "Being here makes me want
to work harder in the off season. I'm seeing some
bodies around here that I don't want to resemble."
The big hitter appears to be Neil Sisson of the Medford
Angels, one of 11 athletes to play all 100 innings.
Sisson led all 100 Inning batters by going 18 for
34 at a .529 clip. Dave Joseph of the Brockton A's
was the hero on the mound, tossing more than 35 of
the 100 innings!

MABL OLD-TIMER GETS A LITTLE
OLDER
August 21, 2008 |
The 15th Annual Oldtime Baseball Game was
held at St. Peter's Field in Cambridge. The game offers
a glimpse of what it was like in the old days, when hundreds
of fans would turn out to root for their "town"
team in various local semipro leagues. Players are chosen
from colleges and universities from the Boston area. Over
the years, former Red Sox pitchers Oil Can Boyd and Jim
Corsi have played, as has former New York Yankee Mike Pagliarulo
and Carlos Pena of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. This year's
charitable event was to raise money for the Todd J. Schwartz
Memorial Fund. From the MABL Mariners, Dave Woods suited
up. Learn more about the Oldtime

WOLFPACK DOUBLES DOWN
May 26, 2008 |
 |
The Boston
Wolfpack captured the 2008 Las Vegas Open with
a 6-4 triumph over Team Victory. It was the Pack's
7th trip to the Open, 3rd time in the finals, and
first championship. The competition again was awesome
with a 0-0 game through 9-innings that Boston eventually
lost 2-1 in 11 to Team Victory and an 1-0 semi-final
victory for the Pack against Team USA. The Wolfpack
has now won 3 straight tournaments and have been to
the finals 6 out of the last 7 tournaments we've competed
in.
In Finals, Junior Rentas got the win in relief. Mark
Moise knocked in two with a two out single in top
of the ninth with the bases loaded. Awesome performance
put in by all especially Richie Figueroa (2 hit 1-0
shutout in semis), Bill Speakman (8+ IP in pool win
over Team USA), Paul Rousseau (.533), Carmello Bastian
(5 RBIs), and Bobby "Vegas" Iandoli. |

MARINERS AND O'S SQUARE OFF
AT MUZZY FIELD IN BRISTOL, CT
May 16, 2008 |
The MABL Orioles and Mariners squared off
at historic Muzzy Field in Bristol, Connecticut, former
home of the Bristol Red Sox, then the double-A affiliate
of the Boston Red Sox, from 1972 to 1982.
Two little leaguers from the McCabe-Waters Little League
threw out the first pitch. The Mariners contributed $350
to the McCabe-Waters Little League to give back to the Bristol
community for serving as hosts for this regular season BMBL
game. These two young pitchers eventually gave way to two
BMBL pitchers, the M's Pat Walters and the O's Victor Ruiz,
who both went the distance in this 9-inning affair. The
Mariners edged the O's 2-0 on a beautiful day in Bristol.
