Tough Loss on Opening Day
The Orioles and Mariners squared off on Opening Day this past Sunday, with Bryan Healey of the Orioles taking the hill against EJ Freni. The Orioles would jump out to an early lead with 6 runs in the bottom of the first, but the Mariners would respond quickly with 3 runs in the top of the second to pull within 3.
With the score 7-3 going into the fourth inning after another Orioles run in the bottom of the second, the Mariners would begin to chip away, adding a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth, amongst which Corey Aldoupolis would hit his first homerun of the season, and just like that the Mariners were ahead 9-7.
The Orioles would put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth to pull within one, but with the tying and go-ahead runs on base, the Mariners bullpen would wiggle out of the inning with the slim lead still intact going into the final frame.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Orioles would get the tying run on base, and Jordan Krall, who also hit a solo homerun earlier in the game for his first of the year, would make it exciting with a hard hit ball, but unfortunately it was hit right at the third baseman, and the game ended with a final score of 9-8.
A disappointing start to the season, for sure, but the offense looked solid, and the Orioles look to bounce back with a win against the Athletics this Friday, May 2nd, at Chelsea High School. See the schedule for more details.
